Classes are taught at all levels - from beginning to advanced. There
are
2 divisions - Junior Division and Teen/Adult Division. Within each
division
there are classes at all levels. This flexibility means that you can
find
a class appropriate for your level and age.
Each class starts
with a 30-45 minute warmup preparing the body for more strenuous
activity.
After warmup, technique of new steps, repetition of dance basics are
taken
in center or across the floor. The last 15-20 minutes of class is saved
to learn a combination. Combinations usually are continued for 3 weeks,
then the last week of the month is reserved for 'across the floor' to
provide
an opportunity for quick pickup, learning and performing of short
combinations.
A dress code
is enforced throughout the studio - please read the section on 'Rules
and
Policies'.
Parents have
the opportunity to informally observe their children once per
month.
Every 2 years,
Marie Stinnett Dance prepares and presents a performance held at the
Campbell
Community Center entitled 'Dance at the Gym!" because it is held in the
Large Gym. The performance gives the students an opportunity to perform
and learn about the technical side of a performance. Students help with
all aspects of the performance - dancing, costumes, makeup, lights,
stage
preparation, props, and cleanup. Students in the Junior Division learn
their choreography during their class sessions, and perform as a class.
Teen/Adult Division dancers must audition for the performance company
and
rehearse outside their normal class times. This allows professional
students
to attend classes as their schedules permit and still get a complete
class.
Choreography is done by the Marie Stinnett Dance staff as well as
invited
guest choreographers!
